GRADES 7 – 8

The 7-8 sector at St Marys District School is designed to cater for the needs of young adolescents.  We aim to facilitate a caring and supportive environment in which students are encouraged to reach their full potential and positive relationships are cultivated.

Students in the 7-8 sector are taught core subjects by a small team of teachers.  Students remain in their own classroom for most of these subjects.

Grade 7 students participate in Taster Courses during options times, experiencing traditional option courses during the year.  These courses include Music, Visual Art, Agricultural Studies, Food Studies, MDT and STEM.

Grade 8 students will choose from the Elective and Year Option Subjects on offer which include Music, Visual Art, Computer Graphics, Farm, Food and Fibre, Food and Hospitality, Sports Science, Introduction to Psychology, Production and Performance, Food Sciences and MDT.

One of the objectives of the 7-8 teaching team is to provide an engaging and relevant curriculum that develops young adolescents’ skills growing independence, self-esteem, creativity, adaptability and resilience.

 

GRADES 9-10

Positive relationships are again a focus in the 9-10 sector, while catering for the learning and social/emotional needs of our 9-10 students.  Staff in the 9 - 10 area have an emphasis on providing opportunities for students to succeed and innovative programs which encourage problem solving and motivation. 

Students in the 9-10 sector are taught core subjects by a small team of teachers.  Students remain in their own classroom for most of these subjects.

Grade 9-10 students are able to choose from a number of options and elective courses and participate in both 2 blocks or 1 block courses these include Music, Visual Art, Computer Graphics, Farm, Food and Fibre, Food and Hospitality, Sports Science, Introduction to Psychology, Production and Performance, Food Sciences and MDT.
